K. Madhu
K Madhu is an Indian film director and producer who works predominantly in the Malayalam film industry. K Madhu began his career, working as an assistant director under eminent film director M. Krishnan Nair, who was also a recipient of the prestigious J.C. Daniel Award.
He made his debut with Malarum Kiliyum (1986) and has directed over 30 popular and financially successful feature films in various languages (Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu & Kannada) including Irupatham Noottandu, Mounam Sammadham, Crime File, Nadia Kollappetta Rathri, Moonam Mura and the CBI Series. He succeeded in getting a career break in 1987 with Irupatham Noottandu starring Mohanlal which broke all the records in collection & popularity.
It was followed by Oru CBI Diary Kurippu in 1988. The highest-grossing Malayalam film at that time. Considered one of the best crime thrillers in Malayalam, it eventually developed a cult following. The movie ran for a whole year (365 days) in Safire Theatre, Madras (India's first largest multi-theatre complex) at a time when Malayalam films didn't find much of an audience in the neighbouring states. Oru CBI Diary Kurippu was later remade in Hindi (as 'Police Public' with Rajkumar and Kabir Bedi) and in Telugu (as 'Nyayam Kosam' with Rajsekhar).
After many successful years in cinema, In 2017, he announced a multilingual historical film titled 'Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma' based on Kerala History which will be produced in five languages - Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kanada & Hindi, followed by a sequel. The series of movies depict the life stories of two eminent kings of erstwhile Travancore.
Mammootty starring the fifth sequel of the CBI series written by SN Swamy is the forthcoming directorial this year (2021).
